The first shirt is the hard one.
Everything after it is straightforward. We hold your pattern, and each shirt comes out the same as the last. But the first one is ordered on trust, from a screen, without anyone putting a tape around you. That risk should sit with us, not with you.
If your first shirt doesn't fit, we'll remake it. Once, free, in whatever size or specification gets it right. And you keep the first one.
Wear it. Wash it. Then decide.
American oxford cloth settles after its first wash. The cotton relaxes, the collar finds its shape, the body draws in a little. A shirt judged straight out of the box is a shirt judged before it has finished becoming itself.
So there is no need to hurry. Wear it. Wash it once. Then tell us what to change. You have 30 days from delivery, and nothing you do to the shirt in that time will cost you the promise.
How it works
- Tell us what's wrong. Email info@wingfieldapparel.com within 30 days of delivery with your order number and the problem in your own words — sleeves long, body full, collar tight, whatever it is. A photograph helps. It isn't required.
- We adjust your pattern. Most fit problems come down to one or two measurements. We would rather talk it through with you than guess.
- We cut and sew the new shirt. Three weeks, the same as the first.
- Keep the original. A shirt cut to your specification can't be made for anyone else, so there is nothing to be gained by having it back. Wear it, have it altered, or pass it to someone it suits.
After the first shirt
Your pattern stays on file, and reorders come out the same every time.
- If a later shirt arrives wrong against the specification we hold, that is our error. We'll remake it free, and there is no time limit on our own mistakes.
- If the shirt is correct but you would like a different fit than the one you ordered, we'll put up to $75 toward a tailor of your choosing — or simply update your pattern for the next one, at no charge.
What the promise doesn't cover
- Ordinary wear, or damage from laundering
- A change of mind about fabric, colour or monogram once the shirt has been cut
- A shirt made correctly to a specification you later want changed — that's what the alteration credit above is for
Damaged or defective shirts
A separate matter, and a simpler one. If a shirt arrives flawed, damaged or not as described, tell us within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund it in full — your choice. We cover the shipping in both directions and send you a prepaid label.
