MADE TO MEASURE

How to measure for your Wingfield shirt.

If the standard sizes don't fit you the way they should, we'll build your shirt to your own measurements instead. The most accurate way to do this at home takes no help and no guesswork — you measure a shirt you already own.

Don't measure your body — measure your best shirt. Find the shirt in your closet that fits you best: the collar you'd keep, the sleeve length you like, the drape through the body that feels right. Lay it flat and measure that. It's far more reliable than measuring yourself, and it tells us exactly the fit you already love.

Before you start

  • Button the shirt fully, including the collar and cuffs, and lay it face-up on a flat, hard surface. Smooth out every wrinkle.
  • Use a tape measure. Keep it flat and straight — don't let it sag or stretch the fabric.
  • Record every measurement in inches, to the nearest quarter-inch (e.g. 16½, 34¼).
  • Measure twice. It takes a minute and it's the difference between a shirt that fits and one that doesn't.

The six measurements

collar band, edge to edge A · NECK

Neck

Lay the collar flat and measure the collar band from the centre of the button to the far edge of the buttonhole. This is your collar size.

armhole to armhole B · CHEST

Chest

Measure straight across from one armhole seam to the other, at the widest point where the sleeves join the body. Measure this width only — we double it.

narrowest point C · WAIST

Waist

Measure across the narrowest point of the body, usually around the fifth button down. Again, the flat width only.

seam to seam, across the top D · SHOULDER

Shoulder

Measure flat across the very top of the shirt, from the outer shoulder seam, straight across the yoke, to the opposite shoulder seam.

shoulder seam to cuff edge E · SLEEVE

Sleeve

Measure from the outer shoulder seam, down the length of the sleeve, to the bottom edge of the cuff.

top of shoulder to hem F · LENGTH

Length

Measure from the highest point at the top of the shirt straight down to the bottom of the tail at the back hem.

These came from a shirt that fits me well, and I've measured twice. I'll enter them on the shirt page to complete my order.

One more thing. This worksheet is just for you — nothing to send in. When you're ready, enter these on the shirt page to place your order, where you'll confirm they came from a shirt that fits you well. We read every set of custom measurements by hand before a single piece of cloth is cut — if something looks off, we'll reach out before we make it, not after.

Rather not measure? Get in touch and we'll walk you through it, or you can send us your best-fitting shirt to copy — we'll return it with your order.
