HOW WE FIT YOU
Three ways to a shirt that fits.
Fit is the only hard part of buying a shirt you can't try on. So there are three ways to solve it, and you only need one.
Choose your size
Pick a neck size, a fit and a sleeve length on the shirt page, then choose your collar, cuff and buttons. If you know your shirt size, start here.
Two minutes · Three weeks to make
Measure a shirt you own
Lay your best-fitting shirt flat and take six measurements. Enter them with your order and we build to those instead. The guide below shows you how.
Fifteen minutes · Three weeks to make
Send us the shirt
Mail us the shirt that fits you best. We draft a paper pattern from it by hand in Newark — then keep that pattern on file. Your shirt comes back with your order.
A $50 service, included · Six to seven weeks
Your pattern is kept. However we arrive at your fit, we hold it. The second shirt takes a minute, and the tenth one fits like the first.
Sending a shirt? Post it to Wingfield c/o Gambert Shirtmakers, 427 Ferry Street, 3rd Floor, Newark, NJ 07105, with your name written inside the package. Choose "Send you a shirt to copy" on the shirt page first, so we know it's coming.
MADE TO MEASURE
How to measure for your Wingfield shirt.
If the standard sizes don't fit you the way they should, we'll build your shirt to your own measurements instead. The most accurate way to do this at home takes no help and no guesswork — you measure a shirt you already own.
Before you start
- Button the shirt fully, including the collar and cuffs, and lay it face-up on a flat, hard surface. Smooth out every wrinkle.
- Use a tape measure. Keep it flat and straight — don't let it sag or stretch the fabric.
- Record every measurement in inches, to the nearest quarter-inch (e.g. 16½, 34¼).
- Measure twice. It takes a minute and it's the difference between a shirt that fits and one that doesn't.
The six measurements
Neck
Lay the collar flat and measure the collar band from the centre of the button to the far edge of the buttonhole. This is your collar size.
Chest
Measure straight across from one armhole seam to the other, at the widest point where the sleeves join the body. Measure this width only — we double it.
Waist
Measure across the narrowest point of the body, usually around the fifth button down. Again, the flat width only.
Shoulder
Measure flat across the very top of the shirt, from the outer shoulder seam, straight across the yoke, to the opposite shoulder seam.
Sleeve
Measure from the outer shoulder seam, down the length of the sleeve, to the bottom edge of the cuff.
Length
Measure from the highest point at the top of the shirt straight down to the bottom of the tail at the back hem.
Your measurements
Write them here as you go
inches, to the nearest ¼"One more thing. This worksheet is just for you — nothing to send in. When you're ready, enter these on the shirt page to place your order, where you'll confirm they came from a shirt that fits you well. We read every set of custom measurements by hand before a single piece of cloth is cut — if something looks off, we'll reach out before we make it, not after.
Rather not measure? Send us your best-fitting shirt instead and we'll draft a pattern from it — your shirt comes back with your order, and the pattern stays on file for everything you order after. Choose "Send you a shirt to copy" on the shirt page.
